Recent Gluekit illustration for Fortune Magazine. Flying high in the hip hip mod sky!

Ah, yes– it’s the summer movie on everyone’s horizon! Here’s a cover illustration we did for Greece’s Cinema magazine. KAAAAAAAPOW!

Wowee! We’ve been away for a blink but are back now and ready to start sharing some illustrations we’ve done lately and perhaps a few reviews related to where we’ve been! This is a recent illustration we created for Radar Magazine, focused on historic signs of downward economic trends (feminists in the news, horror movies, and low-low-lower hemlines)!

Recent Gluekit illustration for New York magazine article about the downward spiral of Wall Street and the US economy. The column chronicled a whole lot of bad news– we thought it sounded pretty earth-shattering– so we came up with a cracked patina to give the illustration a doomed, apocalyptic feel.

The story focused on Lindsay Lohan’s reported kissing and snuggling with Samantha Ronson, and the coincidental popularity of Katy Perry’s single “I Kissed A Girl.”

Recent Gluekit illustration for Milwaukee Magazine’s July 2008 report “Devil in Disguise: The Nun Who Abused Boys.”  The subject matter is gruesome and tragic, which can be difficult themes to illustrate thoughtfully and respectfully. Luckily, we had some great art direction for this piece, which helped bring it to a good place.

Hot off the presses! We are supremely excited and thrilled to have created this week’s Newsweek cover!

It was a terrific experience, especially since we were guided in our work by thoughtful and precise art direction. A good dollop of humor goes a long way, especially when accompanied by a clear and articulated concept– collaboration heaven! And for our international friends, we also did the overseas cover, which features the world’s most popular unpopular leaders. So, happily, this week we can say we’ve got everyone covered!

Summer 2008 has brought another onslaught of brilliant designs for the Yale University Art Gallery’s Calendar Cover Series. Three artists created designs for this season’s calendar, which we’ll be rolling out this week for your viewing pleasure!

Our first design is from Seymour Chwast, and features his current interest in intricate all-over patterning. Chwast founded Pushpin Studios in 1954, and together with co-founders Milton Glaser and Edward Sorel, went on to create some of the most sizzling graphics of the late twentieth century. Gluekit is a huge fan of the studio’s Push Pin Graphic, which paved the way for many of the studio and designer zines of today. Great stuff– and look out below!

Gluekit illustration about the show Swingtown in this week’s New York magazine.

We really loved the abstract pattern play, and color shifts. Groovy!

Here’s a Gluekit illustration from earlier this year. This was for a spot in Billboard, for an article about the best use of popular music in television and movies. The classic ending of the Sopranos set a perfect stage for the piece.

Gluekit recently designed the cover for the 200th anniversary of the fabulous Greek film magazine Cinema. This was the first typographic cover we’ve been asked to create, and it was an absolute blast!

Recent Gluekit illustration for Milwaukee magazine about the ten BEST concerts in Milwaukee history. Mr. Johnny Cash and June Carter won hands-down– the background is a subtle nod to the Sun Records stable.

Recent Gluekit illustration for Entertainment Weekly– always a fun client to work for! This illustration was for an article about how to breathe new life into American Idol
