Nothing Major has a really nice write-up about our pop-up shop at the Scion AV space.
Scion AV Installations recently set up a really cool gallery and shop space on Melrose Avenue in LA. Featuring artwork and products designed by a rotating roster of artists (French was first, and SSUR currently has a show up), the space also carries goods produced by artists who’ve worked with Scion AV Installations in the past as well as a curated selection of items handpicked by Scion.
We were super excited to contribute a number of products to the store, including tote bags from Part of It, some of our bookends, as well as a tote and two small books we’ve created for our newest endeavor, Draw Down Books. The photo above of the shop space has a number of these items on display, including Luck (a photo book by Isaac McKay-Randozzi published by Draw Down), our 16 pp. tote bag (celebrate small press publications!), and a Make Art Now! tote bag by the awesome UPSO, the great brain behind the ultimate art zine, Faesthetic.
If you’re in LA, check it out!
We were super pleased to find an image of the Alphabet shirt that Daniel Eatock designed for Gluekit’s Part of It project in his brilliant recent monograph Imprint (2008). For more insight into Eatock’s meticulous practice and his projects, check out Eatock’s website and, in particular, the section on Imprint itself.
What better way to ring in the new year (Happy 2009!!) then by making some noise! And this handy tote, designed by Wyeth Hansen, can remind you to keep the beat strong throughout the whole year. A portion of the profits have been designated by Wyeth to go to the Fresno Arts Council.
Available from Part of It for $20 + shipping.
As long as we’re previewing some of the new Part of It tote bag designs, let’s take a gander at another sweet set. You may recognize the DIY bag from our last post; coupled with it here is Jim Datz’s most awesome “No Grief for My Reef” tote. Aw yah. Stay tuned for the actual launch and your chance to snatch up one of these lovely new totes!
Part of It is proud to present “Logika Neutrala Facila,” a new design by the esteemable Stuart Bailey (of Dexter Sinister and Dot Dot Dot fame) now available at a special PRE-ORDER price from the PoI website. We’re thrilled to welcome Mr. Bailey to the project! He’s chosen the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen in New York City to receive a portion of the profits from sales of this design. HASK does truly important work, serving meals to some of New York City’s neediest folks, and offering a range of services that can be a lifeline to those on the streets.
We’re very happy to announce that Part of It will be celebrating Daniel Eatock’s “Best Before October 26, 2008” project, which he created to coincide with the closing of his exhibition at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania (just outside of Philly). We’re hosting a sale of Eatock’s “Alphabet” shirt at a special price but the sale will end on October 26.
This weekend we stopped by his exhibition, “Extra Medium,” which is Eatock’s first solo show in the United States. Happily, we also were able to pick up his new book, Imprint, which features his life’s work thus far and, to our happy surprise, includes his Alphabet design for Part of It!
We thought we’d share a recent snapshot from the It’s Nice That “Original Format” Exhibition, currently on display at the Plymouth College of Art and Design. We blogged about it earlier this month, and were so excited to see the wonderful pictures that the It’s Nice That crew have made available of the show. This was one of our favorites from the set, and features one of the tote bags that Genevieve Gauckler designed for our Part of It project (lower right).
The first in a series of exhibitions featuring work posted on the design blog It’s Nice That (a very nice blog that we love) is now on in the UK! 130 pieces of original work by Anthony Burrill, Build, Scott Garrett, Tom Gauld, HelloVon, Mario Hugo, James Joyce, Kate Moross, Jason Munn, Damien Poulain, Rob Ryan, Alex Trochut, Dominic Wilcox, Wilfred Wood and many more– including two of Genevieve Gauckler’s designs from Gluekit’s Part of It project– are featured. Here are the details:
It’s Nice That // Original Format

The totes are available now from Part of It ($20). The same design on a classic white tee is $28. A portion of the profits from both products has been designated by Wyeth to go to the Fresno Arts Council.
Go ahead, make some noise!
As the American presidential race heats up, wouldn’t it be nice to see some honesty emanating from the campaigns and from the media? Part of It is proud to offer a refreshing way for everyone to get involved and spread a message urging transparency and truth (in politics and in life). Designed by Ken Meier and David Yun, “Let’s Be Honest” blue tees ($28.00) and red totes ($20.00) featuring Caslon type are perfect attire for watching the upcoming debates between McCain vs. Obama, and Palin vs. Biden, whatever your political persuasion.
Let’s be honest, together.
As we mentioned previously, the Friends of P project is raising money for the Lupus Foundation of America. If you purchase a from Part of It, a portion of your sale will go to the LFA. Direct donations are also still being accepted at the Friends of P website.
Adrian Johnson’s wonderful “Resistance is Fertile” design is now available on totes and t-shirts at Part of It! These are perfect summer items with a terrific message and a smart graphic. The bags are printed on natural totes ($20.00); tees are silver grey in a variety of Unisex sizes ($28). Adrian’s selected WWF to benefit from sales of products with this design. We love the new totes and tees, and hope you will too!
We’re proud and very happy to announce that Wyeth Hansen’s design for Part of It, “Make Some Noise!” is now available on both natural tote bags (above, $20) and comfy unisex t-shirts ($28). The shirts are a bright white tee, which is perfect for summer sporting! It’s a really sparkling design sure to amp up enthusiasm wherever it goes! A portion of the profits will go to Wyeth’s chosen recipient, the Fresno Arts Council in Fresno, California.
Available now at Part of It. Check it out!
Last Spring, Mr. Ryan Waller did a most excellent and spring-a-licious design for the Yale University Art Gallery’s Calendar Cover Series. As he does so well, Ryan brought a sense of humor and a fine eye for detail and fun to the party.
We think it’s a statement everyone can support, especially in this all-important election year in the States. The totes, as above, are printed on a ravishing apple red with white Caslon type ($20), while the tees are on a fine azure blue ($28). On a purely personal level, both items are a great reminder in any context that honesty is the best policy. A portion of the sales benefit Free Press, a US-based, non-partisan organization that promotes decentralized broadcasting and works to reform the media.
Available now at Part of It!
One of our very, very favorite magazines in the whole entire world, Grafik, profiled us and Part of It in their March 2008 issue. We only just got a copy this week, and are thrilled with the way they distilled the founding of Part of It and described the project. Mark Owens’s “Inherit the Wind” bag was featured in their Showcase photo shoot.
Grafik can be a little hard to get in the US (we order our copies from You Work For Them), so we took a couple of snapshots to share. Enjoy!
